I'm famous! This article from @uofuhumanities.bsky.social includes some photos I took at Libarna this past summer. I also got to share some thoughts about my experience as a classics student at the U. This was fun to participate in and I'm so proud of our classics program!

Staying up until 2:40am to see a presentation about animals found in Libarna! Excited to see the conclusions drawn by the zooarchaeologist from the bones we excavated and cleaned in Italy this summer. A challenge to be up this late but I'm excited to hear about research that I played a tiny role in!

I applied to my first MA program in Classical Archaeology tonight: the University of Cincinnati! Over the next few weeks I'll apply to ten more all across the country. I'm so excited!!

I love #FrescoFriday, this is so fun to see! We know what Ancient Greek children called this game: ἀποδιδρασκίνδα. To my knowledge, the Latin word is unattested.

This is what it's all about, honestly. Related: one of my goals for graduate school is to learn what I can of Etruscan. Etruscologists seem to be uncommon in the US, though :(

This is so cool! The writing is interesting: I don't see the curvy block letters with almost serif-looking lines very often. Maybe something from its origins in Roman Spain or the 3rd century?

I was absolutely honored this weekend to be in the same room as the famous Pylos combate agate and other incredible bronze age artifacts. So so so incredible. Just amazing to spend time with this and see it up close. I'll have to share some of my other favorite things soon, too! 📷 me

This is so cool! I have a soft spot for these pigment jars from Pompeii: they were the first thing I saw a few years ago when I went to Oklahoma City for an exhibit at the OKCMOA that really got me hooked on classics/archaeology.

To say that I am stressed and concerned about the state of higher education in the US right now is an understatement. I've been trying to distract myself by looking at fun things I've seen at museums, recalling happier times and new experiences. I'd like to share some here over the next few days.

This is exciting! Good timing, as I'm looking forward to taking a class on Cleopatra this spring semester and starting to read sources over the break. By chance and luck, in Latin poetry class, we'll be reading the Dido sections of the Aeneid. African queen semester!? The hype is real.

I might need to save up to travel to this one! Mary Beard's documentaries and books have been a constant favorite for years. Not just a brilliant scholar but an inspiration to me and my wife as we navigate academia.
