This week we had our project meeting in Stockholm. We were considering how contemporary cultural institutions connect to their local communities. We then thought about how this may apply to our historical examples. Over the next week we’ll share some of the things we got up to. Teaser below:

Our colleague @davidjcoates.bsky.social has been sharing some of his @erc.europa.eu research in @theconversation.com about queer amateur theatre histories.

For Queer History Month, David has been writing about some amateur theatre participants retrieved from the archive who contribute to our understanding of queer theatre histories in the nineteenth century. Thank you to the @erc.europa.eu for supporting this research. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

David’s work on our @erc.europa.eu funded project has involved research into various private theatres, including Adelina Patti’s at Craig-y-Nos castle. David, who organised this meeting, has come away with a far better understanding of the theatre space, how it was used and who by (yes, amateurs!).

Alongside Grit Eckert, I’ve been coordinating a group of experts to visit Craig-y-nos castle this week to consolidate what we know about the theatre, to assess its condition and to plan for its future.
