Investing in early educators helps every child and family thrive. That’s why we’re proud to stand beside our partner Izzi Early Education, who administers EarlySpark, a @countyofsanmateo.bsky.social initiative that provides hands-on training and financial support to future early educators.

Progress is underway for child care access in San Mateo County. Governor @gavinnewsom.bsky.social recently signed new legislation to make it easier to open child care centers and hire early educators.

In 2007, we supported the creation of Watch Me Grow, to strengthen the local early identification and intervention system. Through Watch Me Grow we saw more than 6,300 developmental screenings, more than 2,000 new service providers join the profession, and more than 400 cases supported.

San Mateo County has a history of leading the way. In 2008, our Children’s Bill of Rights became the model for California’s. In 2015, Build Up San Mateo County launched to ensure there were enough high-quality child care and preschool facilities, becoming a model for the state.

A year after reflecting on 25 years of impact, we remain committed to the principle that drove Preschool for All in 2005. High quality early learning can change lives. Today, investing in early childhood and family support workforce remains at the core of First 5 San Mateo County’s strategy.
