The Project Zomboid RP server I’ve been playing on for the last six months has finally had its story come to a close. I’m sad, but all good things must come to an end. Just wish I could shake this hollow feeling in my chest; it’s just a game, but we lost characters tonight.

Thumbnail. Work out problems one stage at a time. Flip your canvas. Use a mirror/flip a photo if traditional. Sometimes things just take time. Perfect is the enemy of done. Don’t apologise for or talk your art down in public. Repost old art you still like. Mercilessly trim your portfolio.

get past the idea of perfection. every artist you know and love is constantly learning and thereby constantly improving. perfectionism will kill your creativity. you gotta make stuff that looks bad before you can make stuff that looks good.

The visual progression of this character is lowkey heartbreaking. Violet got trapped in the Knox Exclusion Zone with her two best friends, and they both died very early on. Things have gotten substantially worse for her from there. (Her hair got turned white due to an expired dose of the cure.)

I draw Violet a lot as my “test” character. She’s had a lot of different appearances, but the white hair and all of the scars are constants. Visual storytelling and all. She added the red streak in her hair as a reminder of the weight of her decisions. (She’s a combat medic and fighter.)

Full illustrations can be anywhere from 20-60 hours, depends on complexity. Sketches / simpler stuff is anywhere from 30 minutes to 2-6 hours. Concepts take as long as they take, includes a lot of referencing and research.
