While most wildlife management actions across Europe remain local & apply informal decision processes, many people are already active.  Now it is time to take the next steps: Moving towards coordinated, science-based wildlife management that unites actors, and standardizes methods.

#Wildlife doesn’t recognise borders, and neither should our efforts to understand & manage it. To help protect wildlife & to reduce human conflicts involving wildlife, we need to understand - across borders - how species interact, and how they are affected by environmental and human factors.

🌿 Sustainable #WildlifeManagement is about more than controlling population numbers. It’s about understanding & addressing impacts before they reach unacceptable levels. Too often, decisions are made locally & reactively rather than resulting from a planned, long-term policy.

Wildlife management in Europe involves many players. This creates a complex landscape where decisions must balance science, social, economic realities, & public acceptance.  Efforts to manage wildlife are not standardized, despite a real need for collaborative approaches.

#WildlifeMonitoring doesn’t just shed light on ecological & epidemiological processes.  The collected and analysed data is essential to understand ecological relationships and forms the foundation for science-based decision making that supports wildlife, habitats, and society.

Wildlife management isn't just about protecting endangered species; it also involves managing common species and livestock in human-dominated areas.  These efforts support biodiversity and help reduce infectious diseases, benefiting wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. #OneHealth
