The show's had good "gets" over the years, but the guest on"Blank Check's" THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY ep. got a rare, "Whoa, whoa!" from me.

I don't know why it's started to irritate me hearing people adamantly say "Super Mario BROS" instead of "Super Mario BROTHERS." Maybe it's because the period - it is indeed BROS. - tells you it's an abbreviation and the last word should be read as "brothers." Maybe because I hate the word "bro."

Watching what Sky's YouTube channel has put up of #SNLUK - and when it comes to the cold open, (a) as a major FRIENDS fan, I caught & enjoyed the Helen Baxendale shoutout, and (2) "Tr***" only got, like, 1 word, a blip of an actual moment in the sketch, so...current cold open advantage: Brits.

I'm of the age that more than a little of my fondness for Peter Lorre comes from Robin Williams'/Genie's impression of him in ALADDIN and Christopher Lambert's borderline-impression in something like MORTAL KOMBAT - and I'm not proud of that, but there we are.

BTW, on the Saturday of the SNL UK debut, I found myself missing the days when I had BBC America.

Here lies my final score for my Vulture Movies Fantasy League roster and placement in the rankings. The Oscar wins for ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, HAMNET, and K-POP DEMON HUNTERS got me 425, 75, and 125 points, respectively, not enough to haul out any prizes but not BAD.

I have a face for podcasting, but...AUDIO podcasting - and I've almost started one, but the medium's "pivot to video" is basically saying, "No, John, never YOU in this world."

So, "all-star" is supposed to refer to a lineup, not a person. An individual cannot be "AN all-star." It's pretty much there in the term, "all-star," but...yeah, folks forgot that at some point - as with all definitions of all words.

One of the best things the Oscars does is getting people - "cinephiles" and "civilians" - to see more movies, fill in blind spots, expand horizons. There will - surely/hopefully - be people who watch those movies PTA called out for the first time 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 he did, and that's for the best.

YouTube surfaced a "Rewatching the 2006 Oscars" [that's the ceremony in '06, films of '05] video with Richard Lawson to me a few days back, and I had no idea he had a YT channel where he's doing stuff like that, but love that he's continuing the Oscars-revisiting beyond Vanity Fair!
