After seeing Linus using Fedora in the recent Linus video, I thought I'd try it. After 2 hours it's now permanently frozen on the log in screen, it is nearly 3am and I am going to bed

So it appears the company I work for has completely collapsed and at the end of this month all 35 or us will be made redundant. Yay

Just finished the last of the Lensman books. The ending was unexpectedly ominous.

I've actually been a Radiation Hormesis believer for a number of years now. If a hot drink can cool the body when it's hot then a little more radiation can kick my DNA repair systems into overdrive

Lensman Nadreck is one of the funniest characters I've ever read. Sorry guys my mission to the enemy planet failed What? How? Tried to get them to kill each other in rage, but some survived and I had to kill them myself. How many did you have to kill yourself. Three. What?

Sometimes I see a youtube video that makes me make something. How much osmium does it take to have enough mass to create a black hole? About this much:

Was reading the wikipedia page on plate tectonics because I was bored. Turns out the primary force moving plates isn't mantle convections, but ridges pushing plates away. It also might be subduction pulling plates around. We don't actually entirely know

Kinda nuts that yesterday the BBC started a police officer racism scandal and then today everyone was praising the response to the terrorist attack. To be fair 7 minutes from first 999 call to attacker dead is crazy fast

Over the last week a large chunk of my twitter feed has turned into kind of conservative-christian-new-mom-posting-about-babies/pregnancy/parenting and it's extremely weird considering I'm male, single, and not conservative.

I think it's kinda funny that my technique of rectifying FTL travel in movies not violating causality by simply deciding that this universe does not have relativity at all works extremely well because it fixes everything without changing anything else in the story

Prior to these three I read Nightfall, which was voted as the best scifi story ever written in 1968. Nightfall was Isaac Asimov's breakout work, and almost 50 years later was expanded into a full novel.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a watershed moment in history. The very concept of a nation was never the same again. The election of Donald Trump to the US presidency was a moment of similar significance. The world is changed forever.

I saw another quote tweet about this song where they expressed how utterly unsubtle the lyrics are. Then it occurred to me that right wingers have ZERO media literacy, so there is no way to hide a violent message in subtext, it has to be plainly stated.

Why am I just now finding out that the War of the Worlds film that came out this year had aliens edited on top of footage of terrorism, tragedies and real war destruction?

Casual reminder that multiple ancient stories refer to the Pleiades star cluster as being 7 sisters, but today Pleione is too close to Atlas to see them as separate stars with the naked eye, leaving only 6 visible stars. The last time they were far enough apart was 100,000 years ago.
