Ok everyone, no morning alarms and no making school lunches for the next 2 weeks, it’s hibernation time.

Day 2 - overnight freezing rain and winds meant today’s walk was short (0.9km) and treacherous. Still glad I went, I saw 2 mule deer, my fave grey magpie, and a local highschool gym class trying downhill skiing.

Day 1 of intentionally walking outside, no headphones, no self-judgement of not going far or fast enough, no matter the conditions. An overcast -13°C afternoon, 1.5km.

I don’t often borrow physical books, because it’s hard to get to get to my library when it’s open. But I want to shift my book-buying to those books that I really love, so I started borrowing from the library more often and if I really like it I buy it to re-read another time.

Everyone says overuse of em-dashes is an AI red flag but another annoying one is using emojis as bullets or in front of a new paragraph in social media posts 😩

Academic book rec! I was lucky to win a book of my choice from
@ubcpress.bsky.social
from a conference I attended, and this was my selection. Super insightful study of Cree economic relationships, demonstrated through interviews, language, history, and stories. Highly recommend!

Can someone explain how the Libby suspend hold function works? I’m confused b/c it says if you suspend your hold you keep moving up in the line. I suspended and then unsuspended a couple of days later, then I was #1 in line with a 2 wk wait. Now I’m 4th in line with an 8 wk wait?

I know starlings are an introduced species but c’mon, you have to love the sound of hundreds of them chirping away. This was moments before a merlin came swooping in and sent them all off into a noisy murmuration.
