I just rewatched “About Time” again and bawled my eyes out…again.

I finally saw Gunn’s “Superman” yesterday. I have to admit, I was impressed and very much enjoyed it. He fixed the issue I’d always had with Superman (the character) by making him far more vulnerable than previous story tellers, which just makes him so much more likable and relatable.

One issue over Kirk was that for LGBTQ ppl, he was a terrorist inciting hate & violence. For cis straight politicos/journos he was a ‘polite’ debater. That ‘debate’ is whether LGBTQ ppl have the right to exist. Such a debate is ‘fascism’ & was resolved at the Nuremberg Trials.

It has been distressing to see the number of US/UK etc politicians who were grieving, & praising, a man whose mission was to incite hate & violence against LGBTQ people. Many of these same supposedly ‘human rights advocates’, will be looking for our votes, not defending our lives. We see you.

My feelings about Charlie Kirk’s death aren’t celebratory, or even indifferent. I feel a profound sense of RELIEF, actually, because an influential voice that fomented hatred and violence toward immigrants, women, people of color, homosexuals, and transgender people is now silent.

We watched “Pride” (2014) about gay rights activists supporting striking miners in the UK in the 1980’s. It’s a really beautiful little movie. Had never heard of it until recently, but I highly recommend it.
