normalizing mask wearing makes criminalization, from this kind of surveillance to mask bans, way harder. you wearing a respirator to the grocery store, on transit, in healthcare is a practice of solidarity with the most marginalized in your community on more than one level.

PSA: Please remember to wear a well-fitting mask when you’re at the pharmacy getting vaccinated (or are there for any other reason). I really appreciate anyone taking a step to protect themselves by getting vaccinated, but you put yourself at unnecessary risk if you don’t wear a mask while doing so.

UPDATED MAP: The Board of Pharmacy in NV made a statement making vaccines available with a prescription. The Board of Pharmacy in OR downgraded their access to needing a prescription (a very strange decision)

It takes about two weeks after receiving a vaccine for it to reach maximum efficacy. If you're headed to AFC and you want that maximum efficacy in time for the con, go out and get the new Covid vaccine NOW.

If you got sick at #Megaplex, it is not necessarily because someone else KNOWINGLY attended while sick. It is possible to be contagious before feeling symptoms, especially with Covid - it is capable of spreading stealthily that way. A simple way of unknowingly bringing illness/

If you came home from #Megaplex sick, please test, preferably over multiple days. While it is not necessarily Covid, it is not improbable since we are currently in a surge (the 11th wave). You cannot be sure if it is Covid or not from symptoms alone, which can vary greatly.

Governor Jared Polis says on a reddit AMA that Colorado will fix it so that people can access COVID vaccines without a prescription within the next few days.

New Mexico has issued a public health order that removes federal restrictions to COVID-19 vaccine access so that pharmacies in New Mexico can vaccinate people of all ages and risk profiles. Every state need to do this!

on the bright side, i think our social norms do encourage people to both test and publicly announce the results more than non-furs would. and at @covidsafefurs.org we've gone to cons and given out thousands of tests and masks, and i hope that we've had some impact on general awareness by doing this

but a furry con is pretty unique in drawing large amounts of travelers from around the world *and* circulating them through cramped indoor spaces, on a time scale that allows one fur to pick up covid at the airport and become infectious by the time they attend a room party, before showing symptoms

a furry convention *is* a pretty good place to get infected. among non-furs there are jet-setting tourists and conference attendees, and people who work in places like restaurants, nightclubs, and hospitals, who take on a lot more risk than people who don't do these things

our single remaining tool for estimating the real prevalence of covid is wastewater modeling, from which you can see that, while we continue to go through the peaks and troughs of new waves, these peaks and troughs are still not dramatically different from what we saw in the initial years

underreporting has only been getting worse and worse over time due to - governments eliminating support for testing (free at-home and pcr tests) and reporting - social stigma about showing concern for or acknowledging the existence of covid - at-home tests becoming less sensitive to new variants

Thank you to everyone who came to grab masks, tests, and info on preventing con crud (and COVID!!) We started with over a thousand boxes of tests and ~8.5k masks and are down to the dregs of the smaller sized KN95s I hope y’all keep rocking with caution, test after the con, and share your results!
