Rael is competent at foraging for food, having been on his own for nineteen years before ARR. Technically speaking though, given aspects of his demi-primal nature involving passive aether absorption, he is physically unable to starve in areas of plentiful ambient aether.

As far as his tanking style goes, he's far more of something like an evasion tank than a stand there and get wailed on tank. He can definitely endure a lot of punishment, but he tries not to get hit while taunting to begin with.

Rael grew up surrounded by a barter economy, and as a result, he doesn't really put the same value in Gil as others might. He understands it's function n everything, but for the things he wants or needs, he usually just makes them or gathers them himself. As a result, he has a lot of unspent gil.
