Now that was an enjoyable evening. Chatting to perhaps a hundred or so passers-by about the night sky as they went about their business in Bath (ok... drinking and eating lots). So many smiles. Outreach is amazing. Dust off your telescope and responsibly say "hello" to complete strangers.

Tonight the mobile planetarium fun was up in Gloucester, returning to entertain 7th Gloucester Brownies and their leaders team. Really enjoyed telling them about the Moon and what can be seen in the sky tonight.

Volunteers at Bath Astronomers were delighted to stargaze for the Jane Austen Festival on 250th anniversary of Jane's birth. The catch? All astronomy had to be Regency. If it wasn't known before 1837 we couldn't talk about it. Quite a challenge. Just the one galaxy. No black holes. No Neptune!!!!

Astronomy Outreach is amazing but it can be a lot of work when the fun is over. This afternoon the washing machine was busy on enough children's space fancy dress to start an Oompa-Loompa Space Agency.

Our last Village Show of the year. Bathampton Village Show was a great way for Bath Astronomers to wrap up their fun daytime community outreach visits. Paper rocket making and launching, dressing up as astronauts, and observing the Sun. Oh, and lots of balloons too.

3 talks to astro societies and local communities this week as well as a radio interview on @bathastronomers.org.uk Bath Astronomers' upcoming 50th Anniversary in March 2026. Tomorrow we are running rocket launching outreach at a local community fete. Busy, Busy, Busy Bees us amateur astronomers.

Thanks to the village community of Wellow who turned out at the Wellow Village Hall last night to make me so comfortable for a talk on the Skies above Somerset. It was a guide to what you can see if you look up and embrace the cosmos with an open mind (not so open that your brain falls out though).

A very successful series of outreach sessions yesterday training young people in astronaut skills and enjoying dressing as an astronaut. Puzzles with gloves, steady hand challenges, clipping on and off, catching the tools floating off and unlocking the docking computer. Fun with Bath Astronomers.

It's a great feeling when an astro outreach event engages so many people from all walks of life. Meteors, Moon, Saturn, double stars, clusters and great conversations. Laughing and shouting as the sky is ripped asunder by a shooting star.

Meteor watching has started. 2 Perseids seen already. Both very bright. 20 or so brave souls in shorts and t-shirts staring up in the sky.

In homage to the thousands of hedgehogs snuffling around the feet of amateur astronomers in gardens across the UK, we'd like to promote a new constellation - Erinaceus, the Hedgehog. Sorry for nicking your stars Sagittarius! Hopefully the IAU will support. #GoHedgehog #ErinaceusIAU

Crew-10 astronauts Anne McClain, Takuya Onishi, Nichole Ayers. and Kirill Peskov are coming home from the International Space Station. They undock from the ISS at 4:45pm UTC+1 today. Anne attended the University of Bath, where she earned a master's degree in aerospace engineering in 2004.

Lots to see in the skies over Wellow this evening including satellites and the occasion sporadic meteor. Spotted M3, M13, M92, M51, M101, M57, NGC4565, the Garnet Star, and Mars. Another successful stargazing evening in the bag.

Outreach fun. Picked up our Discover Astronomy Loan Box from a school in Corsham and gave them a 5ft 7ft replica of UK astronaut Dr Rose Coogan. Created a safety strap for the Herschel Museum to use on the 7ft Telescope to avoid overwinding. Chatted to the astronomy club at Prior Park College.
