I asked students in my US History I class to consider whether reform from within a system or creating something new is more effective. There are many examples of both, including the Revolutionary War, early labor movements like the Mill Girls, abolitionists, utopian communities, etc. #historians 1/

When you are feeling weary or despairing, remember that there are people in every corner of the world taking life affirming action in the direction of more justice. The fact that you can't see it all is a comfort because it means there is an excess of positive actions happening all at once. #onwards

The Oregon Department of Education is pushing back against an April 3 federal order for states to scrap DEI programs, else risk losing federal funding.

For those of us who are not likely to be directly targeted, think about how you can and will leverage this to help others. Start telling state and local government officials what you expect of them in protecting your community. They can foster a culture of non-compliance before it begins.

History shows us that resistance is possible even in the worst of times. State and local governments can effectively shield vulnerable people from persecution. Police, the military, bureaucrats can refuse to round people up.

If you’re feeling hopeless, look at how fascism is hurting people in your community right now, and brainstorm ways to mitigate that harm. Helping one person one time is better than helping no people ever

The US pres. said that another country should build maximum security prisons so we can deport US citizens there. That happened to several of my family members, only they were Jews in the German-occupied Netherlands sent to a concentration camp in Poland. It can't happen here? You sure about that?
