Just finished this. The letter is heartbreaking because he could have taken leave in Sept. Instead he saved it up for Christmas. Six days after this letter he failed to return from a patrol. He was 29.

It was an honour to take 820 squadron around Changi Chapel and Museum today. It is on deployment with U.K. Carrier Strike Group currently in Singapore. An impressive group of men and women.

Challenging the myths surrounding the Changi prisoner of war camp
Ahead of ANZAC Day, we hear about the history of Singapore's prisoner of war camp on the east peninsula of the island, run by Japanese during World War II. This site held thousands of Allied POWs and....

It was a pleasure to celebrate King’s Day with Anneke Adema, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Singapore yesterday. The two countries have very close ties spanning decades.

Today, another Changi Museum guide and I attended the dawn Anzac Day service. Always moving and very personal for us because we’re honouring some who never even made it to Changi POW camp.

Reading this at the moment. Published in 1995 but still potent. It’s heart-warming to read of the joy and relief she feels when her POW son writes from Germany. Heart-breaking when you contrast that with what the families of the FE POWs must have felt, let alone the POWs themselves.

No amount of “404 Not Found” will wipe their bravery and achievement off the record. They were the Women Airforce Service Pilots and they will not be forgotten.

Hi, been meaning to switch over to Bluesky for ages. I'm a writer, WW2 history buff (SE Asia theatre), author, museum guide and paddler. I live in Singapore with my family and I'll mainly be posting on history related subjects or articles. Nice to be here.
