I lived in Venezuela and have friends there. The situation there is much more complex than most here understand, and history there didn't begin with Chavez. Fighting through a place like Petare which is the largest barrio in S. America with 500K people, and awash with weapons would be a bloodbath..

Any US attacks on Venezuela are likely to end in a fiasco, but the extent to which many Venezuelans want Maduro gone and many in states bordering Venezuela are fed up with his chaos should not be underestimated. Geopolitical dynamics in the region don't map seamlessly on to US political faultlines.

Today is the first time I opened BlueSky before twitter and published a hello here first 😃

I have been very active in twitter (@georgeartwell) for many many years, it has never been so isolating and obviously censured and manipulated. It feels like an enormous challenge to “start over” with a new account in a new social network

It is more and more difficult to talk about geopolitical subjects and information about the fight against authoritarianism in many social networks. The “costs” and effects are swift. It’s a paradox because they should give us more capacity to communicate but it isolate in built in bubbles.

I just want to make sure everybody understands that Nicolas Maduro is a ferocious illegitimate dictator in Venezuela. I am also a supporter of Ukraine & a critique of Trump and authoritarianism but please don’t “clean him up” just to contrarian Trump, it’s complicated. Also not for maga intervention
