It’s that time a year when teachers share bad hot takes and demand others not shame them because… solidarity. So just to clarify I don’t walk in solidarity with bad teachers and I will call it out. I hope others will do the same. This is about becoming better not supporting garbage practice.

It is sad to say, but I can with confidence state I will not be entering the United States for the next few years. One because I don’t support the actions of their current government, two because it does not seem safe for anyone not American, and finally because I will not support their economy.

I am really not a fan of people dismissing opinions regarding educational practices and policies if the person sharing is removed from the classroom. I appreciate the thoughts and ideas from folks who have had different experiences.

One of my students has been using @tylerthecreator.bsky.social lyrics to write poetry and then today brought this concept art of jackets they are making inspired by albums. I love my work. My students are so cool. #liftingliteracy

I think as teachers we are often too quick to blame parents for student behaviour. The amount of times I have seen a kid act completely different at home and school tells me these kids might be getting one by their parents

I love soft start things like a quick write or independent choice reading, one because it is a nice way to bring on the day, and also, it gives those kids who struggle to arrive on time a little grace.

How do you know you teach 17-year-olds first period? Half the class is over ten minutes late lol

There is nothing I enjoy more than students finding poems that they love and sharing them. Today kids found poems to bring them into the new year and shared with classmates. Thanks for the inspiration @jess5th.bsky.social
