I know this was on an American show so everyone is thinking Trump, but to me it feels like Ian McKellan is talking directly to Reform and the flag-wavers in the UK who are protesting outside asylum hotels.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday. It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.

Watching The Wounded: This is such a good, important episode: introducing the Cardassians, fleshing out O’Brien’s backstory, plus of course the heartbreaking actual plot. Sadly my main memory of watching it in my shallow youth was… #StarTrekTNG

So, Clever People Who Understand the Modern World: how much attention is Paramount going to pay to then hate #StarfleetAcademy is getting? Does social media noise matter that much? When we were trying to save Prodigy we were told we needed to get up the views, buy the DVDs, show them it was popular.

I’ve just seen a teacher and a professor on Facebook talking about how much they like Lura Thok and I don’t think you can get a better recommendation than that. #StarfleetAcademy

I think I’m losing my mind & it’s my own fault for reading these things… but I’ve just seen someone say you can’t have overweight people on starships because on starships you can’t have any extra weight? Scientifically, is that a thing? Weight in space?

I have decided that all the “it isn’t canon” arguments people are coming out with about a female Jem Hadar apply equally to Seven of Nine’s introduction to Voyager.

There are people on Twitter (yes I know what my mistake was) absolutely convinced Academy promotes some sort of “gay agenda,” and when I made the mistake of asking “where?!” I was hit first with nasty transphobic images, and then by someone just screaming “can’t you see it?” No, I really can’t.
