I asked the AI to impersonate me, and it did so without hesitation, following my writing about how to write good tests for Vue applications. A couple of thoughts about this:

Controversial take: AI is merely a new I/O modality. In the past, we had structured text, graphical UIs, and "structured" voice (already AI-driven); now, with LLMs, we also have unstructured text (and voice). The unstructured text I/O modality allows us to do some impressive things, no question.

Recently I told my fiancé about my angst that I’m just not good at AI coding because I’m just not getting the results other on social media claim to get. She offered a great insight: “Maybe you’re expecting more from it than others?” I think that hits the nail on the head!

The “problem” with TDD I see most often is that it is a skill that you have to learn. You don’t just write good tests as much as you don’t just write good code. Yet bad tests offer none of the promised benefits while bad code still does something useful occasionally.

Don't chase who doesn't chase you! Neither in love nor professionally. Sure, you have to put yourself out there! Don't expect the world to take notice of your wants and needs without making them known. Apply for that job, ask for a raise, or (in my personal case) apply to speak at that conference.

Amen! Every time I read som comment implying that SPAs are literally single PAGE (like in the URL never changes) applications, something dies in me. I think we’d be better off only talking about CSR, SSR and (partially) hydrated applications avoiding the confusing word “single.”

This is what I find most scary about the US: in most democratic countries, a president like Trump would be no big deal because no single person can make decisions like that without a vote by parliament.

A harmful misunderstanding about accessibility is that it's "just" about people with disabilities. This leads to arguments like "We don't want to make UX worse for the majority of people just to cater to the few people with X disability." This way of thinking gets it backward!

To be fair, the overlap between startup founders and people who write great code never was that big to begin with. I’d even say that’s the sweet spot: if the product works, get in good coders and they’ll happily rewrite from scratch.

My experience with Java in a nutshell.

So I've just burned through $5 Claude 3.7 credits with Claude Code. 1. It is decent. Working on a very small code base it got pretty much everything right what I told it to do. 2. Finally a UI that I love! What can I say: I'm a sucker for CLIs. 3. It's slow(ish) and expensive(ish).
