What a week. Thought I'd be low key working on a few lingering projects but have spent the past two days recovering from Tuesday night food poisoning. So much for my first 4th of July in the USA in maybe 6 years.

Just FYI, @tuomaseerola.bsky.social set up a #musicpsych feed in the meantime to watch things like ESCOM go by. I think the issue with the #musicscience feed had to do with my Google Domain being migrated over to Squarespace and I missed some key infrastructure changes. Help wanted if you could!

Getting involved in a new area of work (b2b sales and forecasting) and honestly the hardest thing? Remembering all the acronyms.

After many iterations, I think I've finally un-academic'd my resume. Half the battle was realising how little of what I was doing matters in what I was doing will matter to what I will be doing in the future.

I was also horrified at how people are using LLMs in business contexts. Essentially shaking up a few of the world's most complex Magic 8 balls (GPT3, Gemini) then using what they say to make decisions with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line.

I went to a data + ai meet up earlier this week, thinking I'd fit in for the most part. Shouldn't be, but was really shocked at how much the emphasis of the convo was on LLMs and computer vision. Honestly made me reconsider changing my LinkedIn bio to be more Applied Scientist than Data Scientist

It's very strange stepping away from all these side-academic projects and collaborations I was a part of. Part of me feels like there would be some merit in holding on to some of them, but for each one, once I have ripped the band aid off, it's felt like I've gotten a fair amount of bandwidth back.

TIL you can operate some phones by plugging in a USB mouse to them. Was able to log into a phone with a cracked screen because of this, very helpful in a pinch,

The two things I have found most frustrating about moving back to the USA is the number of people who are driving on their phone and the fact I have to use a 3rd party app to transfer money between banks.

Each day I move "change #musicscience to opt-in feed" a little higher on my priority list
