does anyone know a biologist who works in urban Chorus frog habitat and has any idea how I can better protect the tadpoles? I have on average three raccoons visits per night and then rats who come to the wildlife edges to drink (I shoot any rats I can but the visits are 1 am to 4 am )

The trellises are providing no protection to the frogs some which are turning into froglets. They’re at their most vulnerable, and when the raccoon isn’t dining there are rats, walking around the perimeter of the pond at night.

Good news today! The Bushtits secretly had a nest somewhere in our neighborhood and they fledged today! Their tails are very tattered from growing up in a sock-like nest. Dad second from left gets a begging earful. (Photo 1). I think this might just be part of the brood. Others were begging nearby.

my son just took this video. It shows three tadpoles two are visible and eating algae from a rock and the other one is below, but almost touching the lower of the two. every night a raccoon, or three, comes and I wonder if there’s going to be any tadpoles left

well, this makes a lot of sense. Excuse my blurry camera blame it on a Jay. Two Wilson’s Warblers. I don’t think one bird could take as many baths. I’ve seen at least 20 baths today by a Wilson’s warbler. 💛💛 here are two and then a Junco interrupts #Birds

The Jays are highly intelligent. There has to be a reason they’re gathering the pond plants all day…there’s tons of moss in the yard #Birds 🤔

wilson’s Warbler is still here today or it’s a new one. I can’t really tell. It’s such a compliment when they stay all day in my yard. It means it provides the insects they need. #GrowNativePlants other plants are like putting plastic plants out for birds they don’t attract the insects.

The Steller’s Jay mates. they were together at the wildlife pond. you look like you’re looking for a kind of rubber is really low. I’ve been adding a bucket a day of water.This isn’t really a good sign for seeing juveniles any time soon 🪶

The solitary bees are coming to life in the garden. It’s kind of fun to think I had them covered under a tarp during the snow earlier this week.

I started building my pond a year ago. It was a lifelong dream and first I got quotes and they were $8000 to build this size pond so I decided to get on YouTube and look at videos. I did it myself before my disease progressed anymore. I started with a hard rigid liner & switched to soft 10 x 10

I just cannot keep watching the tadpoles being eaten so I put some in the little South pond in my backyard. I put four of them back there and I cover them with a rat-proof wire net 1/2 inch square. They also have a rock and some logs. I introduced them slowly to the smaller pond.
