Clean energy buyers are speaking out about the GHG Protocol proposed rule changes. “Of the energy buyers surveyed, 75% oppose mandatory hourly time matching accounting, while 19% support it. Similarly, 66% oppose stricter market boundaries, while 22% support them.”

Difficulty does not equal rigor, and for the GHG protocol scope 2 rules revision, unnecessary complication will only cause a delay of progress on behalf of corporate energy buyers, at the expense of the climate.

Everyone knows there’s only one way to stop climate change: reduce actual system-wide GHG emissions. What matters to the climate are consequential emissions reductions. But the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard currently mandates that companies report attributional emissions – not the same thing.
