A Danish reform in 2010 reduced the amount of child benefits paid out to larger families, leaving the benefit levels of families with two or less children unaffected. Larger families account for around half of the abortions in Denmark and thus is a very relevant group to study.

Do contraceptive use and abortion behavior respond to income shocks? Yes. In new research we document that Danish women use oral contraceptives and abortions as a way to resude fertility after a reform reduced their child benefits. @ucph.bsky.social @malmlund.bsky.social
