Famine is a sickness & food is the cure. Luffy understood the value of what Tama gave him, even just a ball of rice. And he promised to pay that back.

The Straw Hat Crew's response is unanimous & uncompromising: everyone. They know hunger distorts the people's minds & makes them accept things they otherwise wouldn't. They see food as strength, & when it's given to people, they might stand up & ask different questions ... like where the food WENT.

Luffy being obsessed with food is a cute character trait, but they're not talking about food -- these are confrontations over who has the right to it.

To hear the Celestial Dragons tell it, if anything, they don't get *enough* because they wanted lobster last night & couldn't have it due to rebellions & raids destroying their grainhouses. The indignity of it all.

They eat food unimaginably better than the meager portions squeezed out by people like Bellemeré, lying to Nami & Nojiko saying she's full when they know she's not.

There are scenes replete with the gluttony of government officials, Marines, Emperors of the Sea, & even ordinary people who nonetheless partake in cruelty against their own countries in want of what they feel makes them powerful.

The arms made in Wano, (by prisoners they need to keep detaining to maintain productivity) have huge manufacturing plants that devastate the rivers of entire communities. They make the fish poisonous to eat.

These forces snuff out dissent because there's no appetite *to* dissent - only to survive the grueling, cruel monotony of life's daily violence deemed normal by the powerful.

Plenty of those pirates actually *work* for The World Government, who will only quell that violence if the plan goes South or in pursuit of some occluded political goal, not for the security of the people. It keeps the people weak, desperate, & fearful by design.

The burden of tributes to the Celestial Dragons weighs heavily on the people, such that they have next to nothing to live on when they're done paying. It makes no exceptions for towns that are dirt poor, or have pirates raiding their precious resources at every moment.

He confronts Kaido's henchmen, apoplectic over their obscene abundance & wanton waste of red bean soup while the people starve. But much more importantly, he takes stock of the underlying mechanisms that allow that starvation to thrive.

Next up is Luffy, who repeatedly promises Tama that when he comes back, he will make Wano into a land where she can eat all she wants. It's not a hollow promise & not just, "Sounds tough, kid" & then moving on, hoping another will resolve the issue. Luffy sees how food's used against the people.

Therefore, we don't use famine or abundance to tip the scales of our victories, instead acknowledging universal humanity in an act so powerful it can make a man put down a gun. You gave him food when he was hungry. That's what a chef does.

I really appreciated this video! It made me realize many modern films are *showing* you something, while the type of filmmaking he describes makes you *feel* something. I shouldn't just see a bomb blast or dispassionately watch drowning -- I should run for cover or accidentally hold my breath, too!

So rather than some chance denial deciding the fate of millions, Hitler & millions around the world had already decided who was worthy of their scorn, & it was anyone accessing art's magic of humanity in a way that eluded them. Rather than improving his paintings, he just stole & burnt THEIRS.

The human will inside them wishes to create, but the one it belongs to abjectly refuses growth, & while doing so, develops a bottomless resentment against the people they don't think deserve praise, & who they hold responsible for their own debilities they won't solve themselves.

Easy -- you don't. Instead of admitting you can't keep up & perhaps reaching out to those with innovative ideas, music, & art stemming, in many ways, from their cultural experiences, you drag the world down to your level where there is ONE story, ONE people, ONE master race.
