Musician, programmer, enjoyer of cats. I am occasionally funny if you’re into that sort of thing.
I am absolutely loving Fugue Machine Rubato. Here’s a quick little sketch I made this evening with a five note sequence.

I call this one Broken Windows. It’s a haunting ambient/cinematic piece. Now that videos can be 3 minutes long, I can actually show all the tracks!

I got laid off a few weeks ago. I just finished a call with the head of my old department and they want to offer me my old job back. Not really sure how to process this. I guess it’s good to know that they definitely didn’t lay me off for performance reasons.

Have you ever had a really shitty day, and then someone randomly says one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to you? I needed that. There are still great people out there. Things are going to be okay, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

It feels so egotistical sitting here and listening to my own music. Do other musicians ever worry about this?

This is me thinking to myself whenever I finish editing a video entirely on my iPad:

Here’s some soothing music for stressful times. This wacky glowing thing is the Linnstrument, and I am madly in love with it. The unpleasant thing above it is me. Sounds are from Pigments and Noisy2. Post processing with Blackhole, Wires, UA1176, Pro-Q, etc. This was a pain to edit!

This reminds me a bit of The Fragile, which makes sense as most of my music can be described as a poor imitation of something Trent Reznor did decades ago. Made with Drambo and a bunch of plugins. Uses my trick of having Flux fade parts in and out to give the illusion of structure.

I’ve been away for a bit, but as soon as I come back I’m having interesting conversations with pleasant strangers doing cool stuff. This community is so awesome and I need to spend more time here, and much less time on Reddit.

Here’s how you do Steve Reich style tape loops and phasing patterns with Loopy Pro. It’s quite easy, and I think it sounds beautiful. It continues to astonish me how much great music software is available on iPad.

Yeah this is the downside - but the upside is you can really build your own thing your own way. It still mildly breaks my heart that the world of deep tweakers and casual players are so separate

made a really awesome looking Reaktor-based generative instrument:

How on earth is this even possible to make with Reaktor? I’m absolutely astonished.

I call this one Regolith. Imagine yourself on the surface of the moon. I used one of my custom sequencers. A curve is sampled at an interval that doesn’t line up with the curve playhead. The result is a series of notes that follow a gesture, but do not play the same notes on each iteration.

Here’s some horror music. Once again, written entirely on iPad. Imagine a scene from a horror movie where our protagonist is being chased by the most horrifying monster imaginable.

The other day I was writing some music and my six year old said, “That music is terrible.” In unrelated news, we’re having brusselsprouts for dinner.

The new Arguments plugin from Audio Thing and Hainbach inspired me to make some industrial music. This thing is awesome. I call this one “Smash and Grab”

Here’s some extremely peaceful music made entirely on iPad. I decided to accompany on piano for this one. This uses BLEASS SampleWiz 2, PurePiano, Weeping Wall, Ridgewalk, OtherDesertCities, FAC Alteza, FabFilter Pro-C, Xinematix, BLEASS Arpeggiator, and Drambo.

I just watched an excellent micro-documentary from Benn Jordan (of The Flashbulb fame) about online disinformation and bots, and specifically about how bad things have gotten on Twitter/X. More people need to be aware of this:

A bit of soothing ambient music I’m calling “It Will Be Okay.” Made entirely on iPad with Drambo and a few plugins. I don’t know about you, but I need some calming vibes today.

I was told that all the best bands did drugs together, so I gave drugs to my rubber bands. Now my rubber bands are all strung out.

You have to answer so many questions when donating blood. And the questions are always like, “Whose blood is this?” and “Why is the blood in a bucket?” Look, do you want the blood or not, guys?

Guidance Counselor: Inside you, there are two wolves. Me: What’s inside of those wolves? GC: More wolves. Me: And inside of them? GC: Even more wolves. It’s infinite wolves all the way down. Me: Where are all these wolves coming from? GC: No one knows. Me: Spooky.

One of the best feelings in the world is knocking something off a shelf but catching it before it hits the ground. “I did it! I prevented the thing that was my fault in the first place! Damn I’m good.”
