One of the damnedest things about the format is that the same director can shoot a nearly identical plot and suddenly it just clicks. Week after week of just, "fight the fucking evil, no matter what," eventually produces a result.

Been reading ASHITA NO JOE finally, and some 1,500 pages into it, I'm really blown away by how consistently made it is. The characters are messy, flawed fools. The story is repetitive. And it's just so consistently, gorgeously, heart-achingly told.
