This afternoon, we open #MethodistConf with the Election of the President and Vice-President of the Conference, the Revd Richard Andrew and Matthew Forsyth, followed by the giving of symbols: John Wesley's Bible and a first edition copy of John and Charles Wesley's Hymns and Sacred Songs.

What happens at #MethodistConf? The Conference is the governing body of the Methodist Church and has responsibility for the whole life of the Church. Representatives, elected by their district synods, gather annually to make decisions on ordinations, reports, appointments, and memorials.

Being part of the Connexion allows us to feel part of a connected community. At its heart is an understanding of the Christian community as the ‘body of Christ’. This involves putting the good of the whole body above our individual needs, and a promise of mutual support.

This week, Methodists from around the Connexion are preparing to gather in Telford for The Methodist Conference, the governing body of the Methodist Church under God which meets annually to discuss matters affecting the life of the Church, the nation and the world.
