Using the Morpho Muscular Bodies book is going to be a different experience from both Fat and Skin Folds and Simplified Forms. The latter 2 helpfully show the underlying simplified skeleton, which helps understand how things attach, but Muscular Bodies shows MUSCLES with _maybe_ skeleton underneath.

It's a slow afternoon at work, so I might spend some time practicing anatomy.

Spouse and I are doing our annual 24 hour read-a-thon. I may not make it all 24 hours, but I will definitely finish at least one book and put a dent in the book club’s selection.

Bird feeder update! This morning was quite busy. I had a couple of house finches show up and start the party before being joined by a chickadee and a small mob of juncos on the ground under the feeder. A male cardinal perched on the hook holding the feeder before taking off after a male finch.

I went with The Chinese Place That Gives You French Fries for lunch. I have never gotten french fries but some of my coworkers claim to have when ordering from there. Usually the tone is one of disgust and horror. Maybe I'm weird. Curry tofu on french fries sounds good to me.

Really wish the Middle Eastern place near work had survived the pandemic. I would do unmentionable things for some kofta and lentil soup.

Maybe I can work on my conlang while I don't feel like I can draw.

Happy first Werewolf Wednesday of 2026

I saw a bird at the feeder this morning. What was it? Small and brown, but not a sparrow (I don't think).

Most of my injuries speak more to a weird lack of sense of self-preservation, like the time I charred the pads of my left thumb and index finger by sticking mechanical pencil lead in an electric outlet, or the backyard duel with shinai that left me with a deep cut and black eye.

I watched Heavy Metal this afternoon while turning a ham bone into stock for bean soup. It (being Heavy Metal) is as uneven as I was warned and also worthwhile; I’d even say I enjoyed the movie overall.

Imagine my excitement to see Heavy Metal streaming for free. Looks like I’m going to watch it for the first time soon.

I’m pretty excited to start this year’s planner. After a couple years of day planners, I’m returning to the day-free version. Blank pages won’t stare at me with their recriminating dates when I miss/skip days and I can go back to lists, recipes, and drawings.

How long does it usually take for birds to warm up to a bird feeder where none was before? It’s been a couple days and I’m starting to dream about birds.
