One of the things that has me constantly disconnected from the love that so many people I think have for the “convenience“ of software as a service platforms is being a musician who used a significant portion of off-line tools for my craft.

I still believe in RSS feeds and pure markdown and HTML/css and stupid stable websites and blogs and books and scenes and photographs things that are technology, but do not require the Internet. I find that so much of our common technological discourse is centred around internet/social media

Threads would have to copy everything about atproto/Bluesky to really compete: the permissionless API, full user data/identity control, unrestricted third-party clients, stackable moderation, and the rest. And if they did that, devs could just merge the networks together and no one could stop it 😉

The first time I heard about it mastodon was in like 2017, the tech didn’t get popular til honestly now. That makes a 7 year cycle from introducing something to it going through into the collective consciousness. I’m going to see how often this happens.

Won’t focus on growing here, will focus on authentic documentation. I hope someone buys X from Elon and federated it or that we get an ability to fork all of Twitter optionally but I’m not going to hold out hope.
