This was good. It's a book for white progressives, by a white person, first and foremost. This is a follow-up to White Fragility; you can start here, but you'll wish you had read WF first. With that caveat, I recommend it.

The story was always already about an impoverished unmarried couple facing a pitiless bureaucracy, having a baby in a barn, and then having to hide from a tyrant. The baby grew up to say that the poor were blessed and the neighbor is he who shows mercy. You can’t hide from the politics of all that.

This was okay. His time with Memphis PD dovetails with the vicious internal racism of the FBI. His later CIA is vague, as expected. The author's take on the eerie atmosphere of the first Trump administration was my favorite part. I'd have read a whole book of that.

Gotta say, as a survivor, I’m not super loving this thing where the Department of Justice is running a cover-up of evidence the President sexually abused minors.

More a pamphlet than a book, it's a good conversation starter, asking the obvious questions about why we do things this or that way, WRT gender. Can be read in one sitting.

Decent history. Some of the chronology is a little murky. I'd recommend keeping notes on relationships - those are confusing even with the cast of characters at the beginning. The individual and group psychology conjecture is intriguing.

Sorry for using comics and art to vent and cope with the world changing around me. I will return to drawing whimsical and silly frog wizards and adventures.

This was okay. Except for the "Battle of Hayes Pond," the narrative after the 19th century is quite dull. The Lumbee origins, and the Lowrie Gang portions are very interesting, but it's a slog for the final 3rd. A curious people, though, and a barometer for racial progress.

Very well written history of a little-known war in northern California. As is often the case, it began due to poor leadership, misunderstanding, and hot heads. The combat itself reminds me of WW1, the terrain suited for defense. My last Indigenous book for the Heritage Month.

I enjoyed this. I wanted to read at least one Indigenous author this month, not just Indigenous subjects. Some wonderful writing, engaging characters. I know a lot of it was lost on me, so I can't judge the story, even as a writer. I recommend it.

Illegal and shameful and just how police behave in authoritarian regimes. And also wildly unpopular and not the country Americans want.

While a quick read, there is a lot of information here. This edition provides a springboard into deeper dives into the subject, which is criminally overlooked. Give it a try.

Outstanding. Focusing on power dynamics, this describes the history of First Nations in North America from the peopling to present day while making them the focus, rather than the Euro-American colonizers. I will be returning to it as a reference in future rabbit holes.

Wow, what a life this guy led. Famous boxer, rubbed elbows with fascinating people between the wars - Josephine Baker babysat his daughters - fought in both of them, and then some. Highly readable. I'm going to comb the bibliography.
