Let 2025 be a year where the tech policy community thinks about how to actually be effective in achieving its goals of a better society. There are so many examples of abject failure and so few examples of success. Ethical frameworks, academic papers, and legislation do not equate to progress.

And a great chance to see many great friends (in the splendour of the BAFTA building)

My message at the AI for Science Forum organized by Google DeepMind and Royal Society: the world can’t afford repeating mistakes of the past … need to focus on ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability of the systems, developing better tools to detect bias in data, and inclusion at every point.
