I found this rove beetle friend on the rainforest floor. They are so so fast, you can imaging me chasing it around with my camera just rolling around in the leaf litter. Just unbelievable colors. In person the rainbow iridescence is stunning. It’s hard to say much here beyond just wow.

Research published this month found that even in pristine, untouched areas, insect populations are still on the decline. Climate change is a likely culprit.

The Hive Tarantula (Theraphosa vesparium) enters a symbiotic bond with a swarm of wasps, allowing them to build a colony on its abdomen. The spider protects the queen and larvae, and the wasps help feed it. This mutualistic unit of tarantula and wasp is extremely territorial.

I love how this queen Lasius arizonicus ant is smooth like glass. She’s a social parasite who , after dropping her wings, sneaks into existing ant colonies, kills the resident queen, and takes over. So much drama.

This katydid from Ecuador has been affectionately named by photographers "candy-cane katydid". The truth is... we are not sure which species it is. One possibility is a Harroweria nymph, but until someone witnesses the transformation into the adult stage it will remain a mystery.

One more from my Borneo archives, because frankly, living in the past seems like a good idea right now. See the grasshopper? Look for the "holes" in the leaf - they're actually solid but transparent exoskeleton. I've shared this before elsewhere, but I don't think here. Even if, worth a re-post. 🐙🌿📷
