In other dev news I now have moving platforms working, smoothed out the ledge climbing visuals, added a shadow decal, and setup costume and weapon switching systems.

I was replaying the old Beeknighted demo to see what parts I can salvage and wow there’s not much. I’m really glad I decided to restart from scratch because I’m astounded players were as kind about the controls as they were. I’ve learned so much and the old code is so bad.

It’s going to be a few weeks of less attractive updates for Beeknighted. I’ve been fixing bugs and I’ll be focusing on the “juice” for a bit, facial expressions, particles, sounds, and such, along with prototyping some areas. Started composing a couple tracks too.

This is mega fucked up... and I hate the idea that this kind of stuff is going to get more and more prevalent as time goes on. Mass report garbage like this and know what you're buying before you buy it. This includes Steam as well.

I’m considering making one of those splash screens for my games that says something like “100% human made, no AI.” I kind of loathe the thought of even having to but the infection is so widespread that I want it clear that everything you see and hear is my own mediocrity, not generative excrement.

I started greyboxing the beehive a few days ago and discovered a horrible issue with how placing the bee at a position other than 0,0 and 0 rotation broke the whole controller. Spent the last couple days fixing that dumb global/local coords mistake but now we’re good.

Finally got climbing animations finished and tweaked a few other animations. I’ll post a video once I’ve got climbing in engine. Got sick and lost my voice this week so I’ve been slacking on dev and just gaming in bed

Got rudimentary swimming working today

Still a little rough but I've got a start on strafing, dashing, vertical/horizontal attacks, charge attack and jump attack

I’ve been making a bunch of small tweaks to things in the Beeknighted prototype. Adjusting animations, playing with speeds and timings, fixing bugs as I discover them. I’ve got strafing implemented now though it still needs work. All basic attacks are in and I started ui/menus. Video update soon.

Metroid Prime 4 thoughts: when it’s being MP, it’s very good-great. When it’s doing anything else, it’s middling. There’s about 5-8 hours of really great game packed into a 20-30 hour playtime. The desert would have been 100% ok if the crystal grind wasn’t mandatory and it was treated like SotC.

"Madvent simply refuses to die." Appreciate the Madvent 5 dev team for continuing this mad event. It's no small feat to organize and ship on time! Since I didn't Direct this round, I'm excited I get to dive into a Madvent mostly blind!

WIP on the controls. Still lacking particles/sound effects/etc. so it's lacking a bit of punch atm but it's starting to take shape.

Basic movement including walking, running, jumping, flying, crawling, and dashing have all been re-implemented. That leaves strafing, swimming, climbing and a few other odd states left before I can begin working on combat and items. Video update soon.

The next Beeknighted devlog on itch (new camera part 2) is not going to go up for a little bit because now that I’m done with the first animation pass I’ve started reworking the controls. Also gifs still do not work on itch atm. Maybe I’ll put up a shorter devlog on something else in between.

Finally watching Enterprise. Finished season 1. Definitely a lot of very rough looking episodes even for the time and a lot that just kinda don’t go anywhere. There’s a few really good ones, and I generally like the crew though it feels like they kinda forgot about Travis. I like Archer a lot

Almost finished with round 1 of bee animations - all the primary movement, sword, and injury animations. Then I’ll get the controls tightened up and round 2 is swimming, climbing, and special actions, maybe a weapon or two, and I’ll be ready to start remaking the demo again. Still a ways off though

Had a couple hours to myself last night so I finally fixed the last three bugs in Beeknighed’s camera system and chipped away at the animation list. These last two months of work have been rough and things won’t get easier for a while.
