The Florence Project and Kino Border Initiative were invited to speak to a Senate staff delegation at the U.S.-Mexico border recently. The delegation consisted of staff from the offices of Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, alongside ten other offices.

Good news! A federal judge has extended a temporary restraining order that blocks the removal of unaccompanied children from Guatemala and Honduras who are currently in immigration shelters in Arizona.

ICE is detaining more people than ever before, according to new analysis by @vera.org: 1️⃣ 59,000+ detained in a single day — a record high 2️⃣ 59 new ICE facilities and 77 reopened ones 3️⃣ Thousands denied access to lawyers, fair hearings, left in inhumane conditions 4️⃣ Detaining families again

Right now, thousands of people in our communities face: ▪️ Arrests at routine ICE check-ins and court hearings ▪️ Inhumane detention with little to no access to lawyers ▪️ Separation from their families and communities ▪️ Fast-tracked deportations and unjust case dismissals

Late Saturday night, with little to no notice, the US government sent private transportation contractors to shelters housing unaccompanied immigrant children with the intent to take away and illegally repatriate our child clients to Guatemala against their wishes.

Our Policy Coordinator Annalise Parady recently attended a Reconciliation Lobbying Day in Washington, D.C. along with hundreds of other advocates. 🧵

In Phoenix, ICE agents are detaining undocumented immigrants after their immigration court cases are dismissed. People attend their legal appointments, complying with the law, and even after some have had their cases dismissed, they are ambushed by ICE agents and sent to immigration detention.

Andry Hernández Romero, a makeup artist, actor, and beloved member of the LGBTQ+ community from Venezuela, was forcibly removed and disappeared from the U.S. to a mega-prison in El Salvador, a facility known for its brutal human rights violations.

The U.S. Supreme Court has permitted the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 348,000 Venezuelans, reversing protections put in place by President Biden.

2025 brought a flurry of anti-immigrant policy changes aimed at effectively eliminating immigration in the U.S., including a border closure, deportation operations, an expansion of immigration detention, the termination of humanitarian parole programs, and the shutdown of legal access and education.

No matter where you are from, or how you came to the U.S.– we all deserve the right to due process. We all deserve to trust that our loved ones will come home safe at the end of the day.

A federal district court has ordered the Trump admin to restore funding for attorneys who represent unaccompanied immigrant children! Despite a previous court order in early April, the administration delayed funding for several weeks, leaving children to navigate immigration proceedings alone.

Each year, thousands of unaccompanied children arrive in the U.S. fleeing violence, abuse, and unimaginable hardship. At the Florence Project, we have stood by their side through their legal cases and in court, making sure they don’t have to face our complex legal system alone.
