The Utah Jazz tipped off the first extended road trip of the year with a short flight to the Valley of the Sun. They departed fairly early for such a short flight, arriving in Phoenix early enough to enjoy today's 89° temps. No jacket required! Jazz-Suns Friday/Halloween night.

The start of the regular season always feels like Christmas to me. In contrast, the start of preseason feels like Christmas Eve, when we were allowed to open one gift, but it was always the new pajamas. It was still fun to open something, but it wasn't the best stuff.

There's the answer. Utah bypasses signing a second 10-day contract & just locks Springer down for what sounds like 3 years (the rest of this one plus two more). I'm guessing the future years are team options and/or lots of non-guaranteed money.

Jaden Springer's 10-day contract expired at the end of day Saturday. He is still listed in Utah's Game Notes, which could indicate he's expected to sign a 2nd 10-day deal, but that's not official. Keep an eye out for either a contract signing or no news at all.

As a 3 year vet (currently in his 4th year), Springer should make $124,288 over the 10-day contract. Utah will pay him $119,972, with the league paying the remainder.

The Clippers just wrapped up a 14-point win over the Grizzlies & are supposed to depart for SLC in an hour. I bet Kawhi sits tomorrow, with Harden, Powell & Zubac TBD. Jazz may rest some guys as well due to the B2B. Clips-Jazz Thursday night @ the DC!

Travel is a series of lines and other forms of waiting. The hope is that you get to experience something cool enough that it was worth all the lines and waits, including the ones on the trip home, because there's no more vacation at the end of those lines and waits.

End of a weird week. We started in SLC & returned home late on NYE for the start of the empty nest phase of life. Before we even had a chance to feel the quietness, the week was turned upside down. We awoke to the news that my wife's mom died in the first 12 hours of 2025. 1/4

It was brutal, even for me. We were walking east & the wind was right in our faces off the mountains. I finally started walking backwards, which helped.

I've had The Emptiness Machine by Linkin Park & Loathing from Wicked stuck in my head for the last 10 days or so. It's like an epic song battle going on in my head, particularly when I partially wake up in the early mornings.

The Jazz had taken advantage of 2 days off & geography, coming home between Tuesday's game in OKC & tonight's in Portland. Instead of a 3-game trip with 6 hotel nights, they split it, requiring only 4 overnight stays on the road. Jazz-Blazers tonight.

The Jazz flew to Oklahoma City yesterday in advance of tonight's game. It's the first of 3 (possibly 4, pending a game being added late next week), but it won't be a 3-game trip, as Utah will return to SLC between this game and the next.
