Calling all PGRs/ECRs 📣 In collaboration with @hotcus.bsky.social we are hosting a workshop at the Rothermere Americation Institute this November! Participants can meet other junior scholars, get feedback on works-in-progress, and take part in academic publishing and ‘viva survivor’ sessions 💪📚

It's been an eventful month for us, so here's some news about what we have been up to. First, our annual conference gathered scholars from across Europe and the Americas to discuss 20th century US history. A special thanks goes to our Events Sec Megan Hunt for her tireless efforts to HOTCUS!

First time presenting at @shafrhistorians.bsky.social this week. Very happy to have presented with such brilliant historians on the @hotcus.bsky.social panel: “Revisiting Race, Gender, and Religion in Wars during the Long Twentieth Century.”

1) Last week was the 2025 @hotcus.bsky.social conference, and a great time was had by all! I presented a narrow slice of my ongoing research into the Cold War and RPGs, specifically and narrowly focusing on The Price of Freedom (1986). I was slightly taken aback by how positively it was received.

excellent few days at the @hotcus.bsky.social conference in lancaster! got some excellent feedback on my chapter at the pgr/ecr workshop with andrew preston, met a series of very lovely people, and, most importantly, got this sweet mug. had a blast at my first hotcus and will be back!

Events 2026 Call for hosts!🚨 HOTCUS is seeking hosts for our 2026 events, including the Winter Symposium (February) and the Annual Conference (June). We can only run our events with member support and input, so please do consider if this is something that you can support at your institution!

A reminder that the deadline for the Call for Papers for the HOTCUS Annual Conference (18-20 June 2025 - Lancaster University) is this Sunday, March 2! All the details are on our website at hotcus.org.uk/events/annua... The deadline for our PG/ECR workshop led by Andrew Prescott is also on Sunday.

HOTCUS is pleased to announce that the application round for our 2025 Doctoral and Early Career Research Awards is open, offering up to £500 for research expenses and/or research travel to take place within a year after the date of application. Deadline is April 4 2025!
