I believe I rented this exact copy of Paper Mario once. I wasn't much of a renter, but that seems to ring a bell. Then the store went out of business and my parents bought some of the games for me.

I remember the family renting from Blockbuster (or maybe Dollar Video). Next thing I knew my dad traded VII in at Funcoland & came home with it. It’s one of my favorite stories to tell. I know many FF fans get upset with me about it (especially VII fans). Still my top FF & fave soundtrack too.

Well I wouldn’t say I rented it but I did get to see a few cool games my family used to play.

Maybe not in my top 10 video games but, its still very special to me.

I told the story in the Super Mario World episode, but my parents got me one for a gift I think around 1991 or 1992, and I found it in the garage and told them and they tried to tell me it was for another kid and I couldn't have it. Then a watermelon got involved. And then I got a SNES. 🙃

Did you own an SNES around the time of its release, get one later on, or never have one at all?

Yet people will still get upset when we call the 360 retro (which it already was). My baseline for considering a console retro, because it's how it was when I was growing up as well, is that a console is 15 years past its release date. People really get salty about it when we call 7th gen retro.

There is no other choice, Pokemon Yellow was my very first video game! I played it before I could even read

I had to call home sick one day in 7th grade. Conveniently while I was borrowing Link's Awakening. Got to stay home and play it for a couple days while being sick. Also played Metroid II around the same time. Both of these are my favorites.

It can't be anything else for me. As much as I loved my small library, this was THE game that I played for hundreds and hundreds of hours. It was my adventure in my pocket.

I have a stack of favorite Game Boy games. But I gotta give it to Metroid II ✨️
