Watching #LittleForest (2018) and #KimJiYoungBorn1982 (2019) back-to-back was an interesting double take on women’s work. The former makes growing and preparing food by hand seem idyllic, while the second makes the same domestic labor seem like an unending burden.

I watched #KimJiYoungBorn1982. #JungYuMi is great, as always, her face showing every change in her emotions as a depressed mother trapped by patriarchy. #KimMiKyung as her mom made me cry. This movie felt like it was made more to prompt discussion than to entertain. It was not at all subtle.

I needed a break from the sadness of Way Back Love and the violence of gangster flicks, so I watched #LittleForest from 2018. I see why people love this film. It is meditative. I could smell the wood smoke in winter and taste the tomatoes in summer. A bit too slow for me but enjoyable.

I watched #ManOnHighHeels, a 2014 film. It was a strange mashup of a violent action flick and a coming out story. #ChaSeungWon plays Ji-wook, a violent cop who is secretly a transgender woman, with dignity and a pathos. The rest of the cast is fantastic too. But the film is flawed and too sad.

Started #WayBackLove. A show with the Korean title “A Week Before I Die” is bound to be sad. But episode 1 was sweet and cute. I’m interested in the exploration of mental health, in the older Hee-won and in young Ram-woo’s mom. I liked that it was only 47 minutes long. Sometimes less is more.

Today at lunch all my coworkers were talking about Stranger Things and how much the finale made them cry and I just ate my lunch quietly and thought about how much When Life Gives You Tangerines made me cry.

Update: #HotYoungBloods was surprisingly good! I’m not a big fan of #LeeJongSuk, but here his too handsome face and long gangly legs were put to good use. This nostalgic romcom is surprisingly sweet, and the characters have unexpected depth. 9/10 🥰

I finished #TheLadyInDignity. I really liked these two characters, played by Kim Sun-a and Kim Hee-sun. The costumes were fantastic. Like many murder mystery kdramas, the big reveal was a bit of a “so what?” 8/10.

La película #TheHousemaid de 1960 sin duda influyó el kdrama #TheLadyInDignity de 2017, pero aquí tenemos el espejo porque el kdrama empieza con la muerte de la criada y nos cuenta los eventos que llevó al asesino.

El problema con Maduro es que no sigió las leyes de su país para quedarse con la presidencia. El problema con Trump es que no siguió las leyes de su país para quitarle la presidencia a Maduro. Cuando las leyes no se respetan, no hay democracia; solo hay un bully con un ejercito.

El cambio no es que USA haya violado las leyes internacionales eso lo ha hecho siempre y además la mayoría no las ha firmado. El cambio es que Trump ha violado todas las leyes de su país y lo ha hecho sin ningún tipo de disimulo.

Muy contenta la disidencia venezolana, menos contenta la gente a la que un bombazo le ha tumbado la casa y enterrado a la familia pero, recordad, seguramente había túneles de Hamás debajo. Democracia.

Más allá de la opinión que se tenga sobre Maduro, el hecho de capturar y secuestrar a un jefe de Estado sienta un precedente muy peligroso. Estamos ante una demostración de poder absoluto y fuera de la ley que podría repetirse en cualquier parte del mundo.

I finished #ThePriceOfConfession. I started it for #JeonDoYeon. But #KimGoEun is absolutely riveting in this role. This drama was a 10/10 until the last episode. The untangling of the mystery was a letdown. Final opinion: 9/10.
