Is this why they made the king in #BonAppetitYourMajesty the worst most awful king in Korean history? Because the contrast between his cruelty to others and his softness to the FL is a trope that some people love?

I’ve reached ep 5 of #BonAppetitYourMajesty, where we meet the “Chinese” chefs. I’ve read a lot about their terrible Chinese accents, but I have no way of judging it. I can say that Yoona’s “French” in episode 1 was incomprehensible. At least the French judge actually spoke French.

I watched the movie #HeungBoo. I actually started it last week, thinking maybe I could sneak #JungHaeIn into the #DramaJobChallenge one more time, as king. But I don’t like most kings and I didn’t like this one either. #JungWoo is likable as the title character, though. #Seoultember

I know you guys are weeks ahead of me with #BonAppetitYourMagesty but I just made this connection. The tyrant king Yi Heon (Yeonsangun) is the same king that killed Dae Jang Geum’s parents. What a contrast in tone between these two shows about female royal chefs in Joseon.

Also, I’ve started #BonAppetitYourMajesty. Just finished ep 3. It requires ALL the suspension of disbelief. But once I’ve accepted the fake world we are in, it is delightful. First kdrama I’ve tried lately that made me want to stay up late and watch another episode.

I’m trying to avoid listening to the news on the way to work, because it’s so stressful. So I’ve started listening to audio books. Most recently I listened to The Vegetarian by Han Kang and, um, this was not less stressful.

I posted in Spanish on Twitter. There are only a few Spanish-posting drama lovers on here, and most are not as active as they were there. There are lots posts in Portuguese tho (shocked pikachu emoji).

I realized that when I started keeping track of kDramas I’ve watched, I was only keeping track of *romance* kDramas, which means I left off my list many excellent dramas I have seen. 🙊 I’m now caught up through 2022. Why am I such a geek that I spend my morning on this?

#HardHit I chose it for #JiChangWook, but he doesn’t show up till it’s 1/2 over. The real stars are #JoWooJin, who carries this, with nonstop closeups on his expressive face, and the Genesis GV80 he’s driving, shown in so many glamour shots it’s clear who paid for the production. #Seoultember

Dropped: Echoes of Survivors. Even my wife who eats true crime for breakfast lunch and dinner thought this was boring. We watched 4 of the 8 episodes and ended up fast-forwarding through several. The best episodes were the ones about the 1995 Sampoong Department Store collapse.

I’ve been listening to the audio book Fire Keeper’s Daughter on my free Libby library app. It is SO good. Science, romance, crime, growing up, love, and identity. With a FL who is both white and indigenous. She is smart, strong, and makes mistakes. Set in northern Michigan. Highly recommend!

I cancelled Disney/Hulu a year ago to save money. I cancelled Amazon Prime recently for political reasons. I am fine without them. There are so many dramas on Netflix and Viki I will never reach the end of my to-watch list.
