I have to say that the new Path feats in the Unearthed Arcana have really inspired me. They're a fun idea and it makes me excited to think what other paths could come of them! Dragon (at least in Dark Sun I think that's a thing), archfey? Demigod? But also maybe stuff that's less grand!

I've been planning a D&D class based around the exhaustion mechanic. You absorb energy and gain exhaustion, however as you level up, you can essentially spend exhaustion to convert it into other things (spell slots, for example). I'm not sure how well it will play, but I enjoy the concept!
