𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 #Tucson is showing up today given what happened today in Minnesota with a protest in front of the federal building downtown.

Protests in downtown #Tucson continue to grow, presumably as more and more people leave work. Locals are blocking some sections of Broadway downtown with an increased number of police on hand for traffic control. Everything is still peaceful.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 🧵 Good morning, #Tucson. I am here at the #PimaSupes this morning. I am a few minutes because the meeting is at capacity. In the roughly 8 years I've covered the meeting regularly, it rarely been this full.

I want to take a moment for some minor media criticism. For those who are reading these posts from somewhere other than #Tucson, I assure that the #NoKings protest here today is entirely peaceful. Families are bringing their kinds, people are armed with signs and slogans, not weapons.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 A few observations from tonight's #AZ07 debate, the first of several planned in the next weeks. Tonight's debate was hosted by moderated by “Arizona Horizon” Host and Managing Editor Ted Simons. The hour-long debate featured all five of the Democratic candidates.

Supervisor Steve Christy also leans in against staff not putting up presentations, directly stating the Lesher - "We need presentations before the meeting."

Welcome the struggle of following along without a presentation on your computer/desk, supervisor Andrés Cano. He stopped the discussion to ask for a copy of the current homeless encampment presentation he is listening to/watching. He is told he will get a copy emailed to him after the meeting.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 Thousands of protesters line both sides of 22nd just south of Reid Park in Tucson today. This the second “Hands Off” protest organized by locals as part of the nationwide #50501 movement.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 More than 100 people are in front of the Consulate of El Salvador in midtown Tucson peacefully protesting and demanding the release of Kilmar Ábrego García, Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to a massive jail in El Salvador.

Watch this space, I’ll be live blogging for Senator Corey Booker’s Town Hall here in #Tucson, specifically in Rep. Juan Ciscomani’s congressional district. Booker and other Democrats have been holding town halls/rallies in Republican Congressional districts for several weeks.

Tucson City Councilman Richard Fimbres has announced he will be stepping down from his Ward 5 seat and retiring from public service at the close of business on May 1, marking the end of a significant chapter in his long-standing commitment to the community.

I am slipping into Rep. Juan Ciscomani's tele-town hall. To be honest, I am glad he is talking to public but these town halls are deeply exclusionary and while the speaker is giving him hell for possibly cutting Medicaid - he has control of speaks and how he chooses to answer a question.
