Arizona AG Mayes calls out DHS Secretary Noem, after she called Arizona the worst state for election integrity/security. "Multiple investigations, independent audits, and courts across this country have all reached the same conclusion: voter fraud is exceedingly rare," Mayes said in a statement.

Tucson Police Chief Chad Kasmar has announced his retirement, leaving the city of Tucson. Kasmar has been with the department since 2000. Tucson Deputy Police Chief Monica Prieto has been selected as the next chief of Tucson Police Department. Prieto has been with TPD since 1999.

A quick postscript from day's thread. At some point I wrote "data center" rather than ICE detention center. To be clear, the county was talking about planned ICE detention center in Marana.

Senator Ruben Gallego puts out a statement a few minutes ago on DHS funding, voting no today on the spending bill. “I cannot vote to give ICE and Border Patrol more money to terrorize our communities until we see significant changes to how these agencies operate,” Gallego said.

Protests in downtown #Tucson continue to grow, presumably as more and more people leave work. Locals are blocking some sections of Broadway downtown with an increased number of police on hand for traffic control. Everything is still peaceful.

Final post of the night: from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. After mentioning his pardon from Trump, he endorses increased ICE enforcement in Phoenix. “Now that I have been fully vindicated, Maricopa County, AZ could use my anti-illegal immigration tactics again!” he wrote on Twitter.”

Rep. Greg Stanton also weighed in on news reports that will be increasing arrests in Phoenix this year. “We will not tolerate tactics that terrorize Phoenix families because that is not who we are as Arizonans or Americans,” he wrote on Twitter.

Senator Ruben Gallego doesn’t mince words in his statement today about the attack on Venezuela. “There is no justification for the United States to be at war with Venezuela,” he wrote on a post on Twitter.

#AZ06 Democratic front-runner JoAnna Mendoza wants answers. "The operation in Venezuela was conducted without congressional oversight and we need a full, transparent after action report noting any injuries, damage, and laying out a clear plan for what comes next," she said in a press release.

Tucson Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva denounces the attack against Venezuela, calling it "reckless, unconstitutional, and deeply destabilizing." "The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the authority to declare war."

#Tucson Rep. Juan Ciscomani backed the decision. "President Trump’s decisive action marks a critical step toward disrupting these deadly trafficking operations and pushing back against a destabilizing regime that has aligned itself with some of our most dangerous adversaries," he wrote on X.

Sen. Mark Kelly (@captmarkkelly.bsky.social) puts out a statement on Venezuela strikes and the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. He also believes "Congress should vote this week to reassert its authority on behalf of the American people" related to future military actions in foreign countries.

An important story out of the @thebulwark.com, which states #Phoenix could be the next target of the Trump Administration, dramatically increasing arrests as well as building “soft-sided” detention centers to increase capacity.
