Archie continues to be strange and perfect

Yesterday Izzy not only let me pet him but let me get a sand-spur out of his coat 🥹

Have noticed that when the crew is around and we put food down, Ed never eats with the group. At first I thought he was distracted but after watching him this week and how he goes to eat when the others are done, I’m p sure he’s letting the other cats eat first to make sure they all eat enough 🥹

When I went out to feed them breakfast (bc that’s happening now 🤦🏼) Izzy was the only one who got up even though I was SUPER close to Stede, and then Izzy let me pet him while he was eating 🥹 Archie also came out from hiding. I love them with my whole heart 😭

I don’t think y’all understand quite how pushy Izzy is about rubbing on Ed - at the end he is literally trying to crawl UNDER him

Izzy just fell off the front stoop while trying to rub on Ed I would die for these idiots

We agreed this little girl wouldn’t get a name until she was brave enough to stick around and eat - this week it happened, and she seems to have been accepted into the crew by the boys She has a permanent blep and her tongue sometimes wiggles like a snake’s, so we’re calling her Archie

Gentlebeard date night - this time Ed is the one taking too long to get ready

We were getting ready for bed and heard Ed CRYING at the front door SO LOUD bc he clearly heard us moving around inside 😭 Spouse checked on him and he’s fine I just love him so much and want to let him in so badly

Ed was so good at the vet 🥹 We have some anti-inflammatories bc the vet couldn’t find anything obviously wrong and we have a plan for follow up if the limp doesn’t get better More than anything I just wish we could bring him inside 😞

We are taking Ed to the vet tomorrow bc the limp seems to be getting worse Keeping our fingers and paws crossed that he’ll be around tomorrow afternoon and this doesn’t destroy the relationship we have built

We haven’t decided on a name for this little kitty yet, with her always-out tongue This is the first time she’s eaten here, normally the second she sees us she flees but she was hanging out with the boys under the car so we put some food down and went in and she felt brave!

Ed is limping. We checked his paws and felt him over and he was the best boy - no obvious problems other than a scrape on the paw he’s favoring, so it might just be that. We’re gonna keep an eye and I’m just grateful he’s such a fucking sweetie and will let us handle him if we do need a vet trip 🫠

As I was typing this, Ed tapped my hand and then rubbed his face, which is what our calico does when she isn’t getting enough pets (see last pic) I love him so much #FeralPirateCats

I try to be realistic about my relationship with these cats but it’s hard to not believe that Ed genuinely loves me for more than food when he sees me in the laundry room and starts shouting and clawing at the screen door until I open it for pets

Oh btw I realize I haven’t updated about Stede’s chest in a bit! Very much a no news is good news situation - the wound has healed and his fur is growing back 💜💜💜

IZZY LET ME PET HIM SO MUCH!!!! And like, get some scritches in! Look at that loose hair coming off!! He is still very nervous when there isn’t food but this is HUGE! I probably pet him for a full minute 🥹

For all that Stede very clearly does not want me anywhere near him, he does consistently slow blink at me from a distance and I choose to be delusional and believe that means he trusts me Meanwhile Ed bonked his whole head into my tummy while I was on the stoop

Alternatively: Stede is sick of hanging out with Calico Jack (Asshole cat might be Jack, tbh. Stede chased him out of the yard earlier.)

Sometimes Izzy is overcome by his need to rub on Ed and doesn’t realize just how close he’s gotten to me, and then when he does realize, he hops away like some weird cat/rabbit/alien hybrid. Someday I will manage to get it on video.

He also growled at Izzy some so he might be a Badminton, not Applejack

Applejack came by, which was exciting bc I hadn’t met him, but he immediately started aggressing Stede, including growling at him while sitting next to me, which I’m sure will help my relationship with Stede, and then spouse tried to get him to leave Stede alone and he took a few swipes at them 😞

Stede’s wound continues to look better, Izzy took a bath in one of the carriers, and Ed let me kiss him on the head 😻

We still have the carriers sitting outside and Izzy got fully inside one earlier and just chilled out for a bit 🤦🏼

The way Ed just follows me around the yard when I got to check the plants and the mango tree is so 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹

Apparently Stede wouldn’t get within ten feet of spouse while I was gone but even though the second-to-last time he saw me I was trying to shove him in a carrier, he let me get almost close enough to touch just now 🥹 Still worried about him, though I do think the wound is looking better.

Working from home means doing a photoshoot with Ed bc he’s the only one of the boys who’s around at the moment Pretty sure he’s been putting lemon juice in his fur to get those summer highlights started

Update on this guy (tentatively named Applejack lmao): spouse picked him up from his procedure and sadly he didn’t seem pleased by the prospect of a new home with a very large dog (can’t blame him), so they released him near a larger colony we’ve seen being fed in the neighborhood

Spouse has not managed to capture Stede but they have been keeping an eye on him and the wound is looking better 💜💜💜

Wasn’t even on the plane before spouse was approached by a new cat who wasn’t fixed but was very friendly - they managed to get him in a carrier and he’s at the shelter losing his balls. Hoping a friend takes him, but otherwise we’ll release him back into the community How did this happen to us???

I’ll do what I can to keep y’all updated about our bitchy boy while I’m gone - for now though, the crew is safe and relatively dry 💜
