Recent PGR StudentSurvey.ie results reported that 25% of respondents didn't believe there was someone in their institution that they can talk to about their day-to-day problems, suggesting a persistent level of social isolation on campus. For more PGR StudentSurvey.ie results: tinyurl.com/225etk5u

Recent PGR StudentSurvey.ie results found that 31% of respondents have seriously considered withdrawing from their research degree programme. Update! A new StudentSurvey.ie for 2026, for taught students, has recently been released. This follows an extensive review process over the last two years. The survey is shorter, and language is more accessible. The survey has also been updated to reflect the contemporary student experience.

We had another publication on international students this year too: hea.ie/assets/uploa... In 2022/2023 there were 256,785 students enrolled in the higher education institutions in Ireland. This is across all modes of study. This is a 33% increase from 2009/2010

We also looked at international graduates from Irish higher education: hea.ie/statistics/d... 80% of internationally domiciled graduates went into employment. 9% were in further study and 10% were unemployed. 71% of those in employment were employed in Ireland, with 29% employed overseas.

We focussed on medical training in Ireland: hea.ie/assets/uploa... About 33% of Medicine students are from affluent backgrounds, compared with 18% overall 48% are Domiciled Ireland or Northern Ireland 97% of new entrants to medicine progressed to the following year

We also released a gender profile of Irish higher education students: hea.ie/assets/uploa... In 2022/23, 54.5% of all students identify as female, 44.9% identify as male, and 0.5% identify as non-binary or undeclared.

The Graduate Outcomes Survey: Class of 2023 is out today! hea.ie/statistics/g... Overall, 80% of graduates are in employment nine months after graduation. Almost 11% of graduates are in further study nine months after graduation. www.graduateoutcomes.ie

Then we turn to a collaborative data analysis with SUSI; hea.ie/statistics/h.... Here we look at the student life-cycle through the lens of student grant support. The number of full-time students in receipt of a grant fell by 15.5% from 2018/19 to 2022/23, with an increase expected in 2023/24.

Another key publication is our non-progression report and dashboard: hea.ie/statistics/d... We have tracked non-progression since 2007, enabling the identification of cohorts who have a higher risk of non-progression in higher education. In 2021/22, the non-progression rate was 15%.

As we approach the end of the year, here are some highlights of HEA Statistics publications 2024: First, Key facts and figures 2023/24: hea.ie/statistics/d... This comprises 12 interactive dashboards relating to student, graduate, and equity of access.

Today we launched a collaborative report between the HEA and Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), looking at SUSI grant recipients in higher education. The report is available here: hea.ie/statistics/h.... The analysis looks at entry, study, progression and graduate outcomes.
