We had a great Partnership Launch with Hillier’s last week and we can't wait to share Tree growing & Tree caring knowledge with them. We had the perfect weather to plant some of HIllier's trial climate resistant trees on the marshes, the wonderful artist Stik came along to plant one of the trees.

Brimstone butterflies (Gonepteryx rhamni) overwinter 7 months then feed up on spring flowers. The female leads males an upward dance before tumbling down to mate. Dark-edged Bee-fly (Bombylius major). Females coat their eggs in dust & sand before flinging them at solitary bee & wasp nests with rapid twists of her body. Hackney Downs park planting with volunteers on Sun 9 Mar. We planted 3 trees, a sorbus latifolia (broad-leaved whitebeam), a sorbus aucuparia (rowan) and a laburnum x watereri (laburnum) - adding to 7 which we planted back in Dec 24, so a total of 10 new trees this planting season.

Look at this little beauty which was spotted at the tree nursery. It’s a Field mouse, also known as a wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus). Big dark glassy eyes, big velvety ears, beautiful brown coat with white underside are distinguishing features of field mice.

Last Wednesday at one of our weekly volunteer sessions we had a group from Arbdn visit. Some potted up dawn redwoods, whilst others levelled up sleepers to create a new bed for pots. Now this bed is finished we'll be able to complete the installation of our automated irrigation system!
