Today on our walk we met Miss Freckles, a lovely gentle retired racing greyhound whose owner likes to dress her up. Today, he said, she's a Battle of Britain pilot. She doesn't seem to mind at all. I barked at the flag, though.

Finnish Lapphunds.

Someone keeps painting swastikas on an old barn door just up the road. When the owner paints over them, they reappear almost straight away. My human just spent a while scrubbing off the latest one with wire wool at the end of our evening walk.

Thank you for letting me lick out the empty marscapone tub. Are you QUITE SURE there's no more?

Fall afternoon hike behind the house.

There's nothing more relaxing than a good long chew.

Home at last.

For the final night, and we joined our friends’ camp in a wood in Kent. I got to tell my favorite human how much I love him again.

Day 21, and we stayed in an astonishing Arts and Crafts house near the French coast, like a time capsule from a century ago. Best thing for me was being able to run free in the gardens.

Day 20, through Germany to a campsite in the Netherlands. On the way I tried to dig up some moles in a German park, but only succeeded in getting my face dirty.

Day 19, back in Denmark, for my first off-leash walk in two weeks.

Day 18, and we stopped off to see the Bronze Age rock carvings at Tanumshede. Some of them show dogs! With pricked ears and curled-up tails, like me!

Day 17: Time to start heading home. We’ve got a long way to go.

Day 16, our last full day in Norway.

Day 15: There are a couple of teeny-tiny glaciers up the mountain behind the chalet, and the female human briefly considered trying to hike up to them with me so that I could experience snow. But the route is labelled "Challenging," which translated from Norwegian means "Bloody impossible."

Day 14: An unexpected diversion. All those gravel roads had given us a flat tyre, and the wheel nuts were so stiff that neither my humans nor the owner of the cabin could get them off to change the wheel, so they had to call the breakdown service.

Day 13. Rest day.

Day 12, and we headed off for a little fishing.

Day 11, and I STILL haven’t managed to catch a lemming.

Day 10, and to go up in Norway you first have to come down. To sea level, in fact. So this is my first fjord.

Day 9: proper mountains 😀 We’re heading out of cellphone range, so updates will pause for a couple of days. See you when we come down 😘

Day 8, and we went for a forest walk before setting off further into Norway. I'm surprised how very few squirrels there are here; the red ones must be pretty shy compared with their grey English cousins. It does make walks less interesting (and quieter). But I think I found one eventually.

Day 7, a week from home, and we've done the final border crossing of our outward journey. The Norwegian frontier of the EU is much less fussy than the British one - the customers officers just flicked through the papers and didn't want to check my microchip. We celebrated in the now traditional way.

Day 6, an active rest day, with a visit to the dog park with friends in the morning.

Day 5, a proper rest day, with only one very short car trip to the dog beach. I'm not much of a sea dog, though; water you can't drink makes me deeply suspicious, and I don't even want to paddle in it.

Day 4, and we've made it to beautiful Sweden. The border staff peered into the car and said joyfully "Is that a Finnish Lapphund? I've got one myself!" Which is not something I'm used to in England, and made me feel right at home. We celebrated with ice cream.

Day 3 added Danish to the humans’ vocabulary (“min hund er i løbetid”) as we drove north through Jutland and onto the island of Fyn. This time we camped by the sea.

Day 2: It was a 6 am start from our friends’ place to take the train through the Channel Tunnel.

We're on the road! First stop Kent, where I got to say hello again to one of my favourite humans in the world.

Serotonin levels replenished.

Not entirely sure about this cuddles business. I'm a Lapphund, not a lap-hound.

Last year Britain had one of its wettest springs ever, and a lot of wheat was drowned. This year we've had one of our driest springs and early summers ever, and the corn is parched. Climate change is not going to do our food self-sufficiency any good at all.
