Let’s be clear: healthcare must be part of any Continuing Resolution, the well-being of people should not be negotiable.

Democrats aren’t protecting anything by accepting empty promises and calling it leadership. This is the vote — not the next one. If we don’t stand for healthcare and working people now, we’ll be defined by our failure to do so. The people are watching, so is the Administration.

If Dems end this shutdown without healthcare guaranteed and part of the vote for a CR they’ve surrendered the fight for Americans’ lives we sacrificed for. What was it all for? We need leaders — not silence — in the face of an ongoing assault on workers and families.

Feds are in a fight like no other. However, the proper step forward may be to seek payment for feds during the shutdown, not necessarily to end it. If the shut down ends, we’re back to the starting point with more RIFs and more work problems and no unions, without any leverage or any way forward.
