Maya: "Losing avenues to discuss implicit biases and racism in medicine is detrimental to us future physicians, hindering our training and leading to worse patient outcomes in Ohio and beyond." Thank you for testifying against Senate Bill 1, Maya 💗

Maya: "Removing diversity & inclusion from health care & medical school would directly harm the Ohio community’s health. No DEI means a lack of cultural competency. SB 1’s so-called “intellectual diversity” means professors couldn’t contradict misinformation through curriculum—this is censorship."

Maya: “However, with SB 1’s censorship threats on “controversial” topics like these, my peers would never be able to understand why communities like mine need further support to receive quality care, and fewer people end up like my grandfather.

Maya: “Future medical providers need to understand the reason behind disparities in minority health, which happens through curriculum on racism, sexism, and other discrimination in medicine. Ohio State has improved in discussing racism and disparities in health care.”

Maya Dunson, leader of Medical Students for Choice at Ohio State and storyteller with PPAO, will testify as well today. She is a current medical student and one of the few Black students in her class of over 200. She will speak on the prohibition of diversity, equity, and inclusion in SB 1.
