I have made it a habit. I call 2 republican senators a day on an issue (lately the DOE for me) like it’s a something on my to-do list. The 5 Calls app makes it very easy to do (although I usually tweak the script). In my mind, something is better than nothing. Make some noise!

I am the granddaughter of Cuban exiles who escaped a Russian-backed Communist regime. To see Marco Rubio, a child of Cuban exiles who fled for the same reason, make friends with Russia today has my grandparents turning in their graves. The utter shame and hypocrisy of it.

Called senators Suzanne Collins and Tim Scott today about protecting DOE. I made contact with Tim Scott’s office twice. The first time they hung up on me so I called back and got another person who was more polite.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game. The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

More courage… more resistance.

I say this now into the BlueSky void because that the more people are transparent about the ways we resist, the more courage it gives to all of us.

I don’t think it’s going to change anyone’s mind. I’m not even a constituent. BUT I do think every call, every voice, every action matters to put the pressure on that we the people are not going to roll over belly up during this destruction.

I live in MD and I think @raskin.house.gov is doing great right now and putting pressure where he can. I’ve started calling Republican congressmen and women in other states to voice my concerns about the dismantling of our democracy, wholly unqualified cabinet picks, egregious Musk overhead etc.

The AP should stop covering Trump events. Instead send those White House reporters out into the field to report on the harms and repercussions of his policies. The U.S. public never needed coverage of pseudo-events anyway.
