With so many tech companies pushing AI I feel there's a massive concerted effort to coerce people into relying on it, from grammar correction to search results to programming and art reference. AI becomes valuable when we can't live without it. I hope that encourages you to avoid it.

Super proud of the work our team did for Valorant's latest map. I had the pleasure to direct amazing artists for all of West Studio's contributions on Corrode and now the artwork is out in the wild! Just a peek into how much work goes into a single map release.

The most consistent sentiment I see during games industry layoffs are “I worked so hard/made special requests/pulled overtime/I’m so confused!” Listen and learn from these sentiments. Don’t aspire to be a “star pupil” for studios. Support unions and initiatives made to fight this exact thing.

I’ve never nerded out about trains before but the new trains and stations they’ve added to my line bring some much-needed quality of life 😌 I love a public transport win

It’s stuff like this that makes me a little more brazen in owning the whole furry thing. You can hang out and chat with things like this while also being things like this. It’s altogether aspirational, relentlessly self-expressive and is slowly becoming fully realised.

It may be of interest to some that you can now reduce Pinterest’s recommendations of GenAI content. It obviously won’t remove it totally (since many pins are grabbed offsite from places like Artstation) but it should reduce the presence of AI in your feed significantly

One of my favourite ngon modeling solutions is a 5-sided face to hold tight inner corners. Very predictable edgeflow (it simply subdivides to a 5-sided pole in the middle of the face) and saves some work on surfaces that allow for it.

Artists don't just own their work, they own the digital makeup of their work. That's all digital art is ultimately: a hyper-specific arrangement of data. GenAI can't function without ingesting a massive collection of that data. Its resulting algorithm is derived solely from data we make and own.

Artists/writers/PC laborers: - Get up for 5 mins every 30 mins - Look at something 20 ft away for 20 secs every 20 mins - Get 7-8 hrs sleep. PRIORITIZE this over all else - Drink 2-3 liters water per day Do these things because you don't want to experience what makes you regret not doing them.

This take from gamers and hobbyist devs seems to emerge every few months. It’s clear consumers broadly misunderstand why dynamic GI is a blessing to development pipelines regardless of scale.
