Yes! In a culture that craves fast/smooth, we must learn to stay on the slow path, travel that doesn't race towards destination. This is practice.

When days feels like years, Take a mindful breath. Feel the earth under your feet. Be where you are. As you breathe in, say to yourself, I know that I am breathing in. As you breathe out, say to yourself, I know that I am breathing out. Repeat as needed. And it will be needed repeatedly.

The practice.

There is no safety, only trust. This is an intersection of mindfulness and deathcare. Both bring us into the awareness that all we have is the present moment.

Hell, yeah. Self-aware + self-compassion = reframe.

In dark and challenging times, I remember that there is still goodness in the world. Right now I find hope in the fact that there are people out there, like you, who care, and who want to make the world a more just, welcoming, inclusive, and safe place. Thank you for all you do—a big hug to you!

Practice kindness.

One of the hardest skills for many trauma survivors, including me, to learn in recovery is pacing. We've been trying to run a marathon in bursts of high intensity intervals, & it's been hell on our joints & adrenals. "Slow & steady" is often a new, suspicious concept for us.

"Calm down or else" is not a command our nervous system is going to respond to-- or even knows how to respond to. Implicit threats are an attack & an abandonment. It's how our abusers "related" to us-- & our nervous system & "parts" remember.

We are relational beings! There is no separate self.
