Also figured out the resolution after some thought. Going for HD with 32x32 player sprites. Too often have I undershot the ress and lost on visibility. It allows me to come up with big spectacle bosses that feel fair from a top-down perspective.

Playing Deus Ex again makes me realise something. Perhaps we should go back to an immersive sim *design philosophy*. I'm going to be trying to capture that with my perk system. Also things like explosive barrels, rolling in water subtracting torch time... Endless small possibilities.

Being able to do everything BUT program, especially being able to design all the game systems and logic in your head and on paper is tortuous. You can feel bits of your ghost dying inside your human frame whenever you're like "ah, enemy spawners that get reset by bonfires - but I can't CODE that"

Been brainstorming how to actually accomplish TorchSword at my current skill level. I don't want to get anyone involved because I can't pay them. And I don't want talented devs working for free, revshare is borderline cryptobro bs So the game will be m+kbd only. Mouse to aim attacks, kbd to move

I've conceptualised 3 classes/perk trees for TorchSword: 1)Singed Blade: Big bonk gameplay, STR build. Enables torch extension that looks like the Beast Cutter in Bloodborne (will elaborate later) 2)Dance of Fire. Basically Dex + elemental melee, lots of flowing moves 3)Scarlet Crozier. Sorcery.

Alright, so this one is a lil tricky to explain. Remember DS2's torches? Remember how they barely mattered? This is the opposite. The torch timer IS your weapon, health bar, mana bar... all in one. If your timer is too low you can't explore certain areas, also. It's in pre-preproduction so yeah

Man screw it, it was an ok sketch. Another round of topical NSAID on hand and I just toughed it out and painted over the guidelines. Just worried for the future because not only do I want to draw, I also need character portraits done...

My hands being in this shape just makes me concerned for my game. Spriting (with a mouse) is fine enough, but drawing character portraits will be a problem if it just hurts too much to hold pen to tablet. I was thinking about outsourcing that part of production at any rate but this makes it needed.

Damn, I started drawing the art today but this time it's only gonna have to be gameplay footage and midi visualisation or something. I drew some ok guidelines but then ow, my hand hurts and trembles. And this was all *after* topical NSAIDs

Alright, it's done. Mixed it for hours on end due to the amount of peaks Synful Orchestra can have. Compressor and limiter pass on everything, which for string quartet is sort of weird but I like my ~-14 LUFS target. Just need the cover art now, after I sleep because it's 6 AM.

Yep, still taking a while but I'm really, really enjoying what I'm cooking, and it seems my depression's let up a bit! I'm so thankful and relieved.

There's a fine balance between a kick to the butt and rushing art because of unrealistic deadlines. The former works, it gets you working. The latter almost never does, and leads to slop. It's very easy to forget that. Right now it's looking pretty alright, but it took time.

Well, that deadline is gone. The good news is that it's forced me to produce, even if it's at a slower pace than I'd like. Been producing all day and have the entire original song transcribed decently accurately (Castle Samsa theme), with the 2nd section giving me a little trouble.

Just want to let it be known that I will no longer be remiss on my music just because I'm juggling gamedev, mental health, visual art, you name it. Pseudoregalia remix produced and released tomorrow, we ball. Holding myself to that.
